The Challenge

Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are among the most common infections in elderly care, yet they are often missed or diagnosed late. This is due to, among other things, incontinence, atypical symptoms and cognitive decline. Additionally, current testing relies on dipsticks, which are prone to false positives, and lab cultures, which are slow and require a clean urine sample that is hard to obtain. The result: delayed treatment, avoidable hospitalisations, unnecessary antibiotic use and extra pressure on already overstretched care staff.

The solution

Our solution is a smart diaper that detects not only moisture but also UTI-related biomarkers that are especially relevant in older adults, using the data to establish a personalised baseline. By tracking deviations from this baseline instead of using one-size-fits-all thresholds, our system flags a likely infection early and alerts care staff. This enables earlier, more accurate diagnosis and more targeted antibiotic use, while saving caregivers time on checks and sample collection, without any extra burden for the resident.

Mission

Making smart diapers smarter, for the elderly and those who care for them.
